About us
Baglan Boys and Girls (BBGC) is a charity (number 524226) which manages the facilities at Evans Bevans.
At BBGC we are dedicated to fostering a community spirit and creating an environment where everyone can thrive and become the best version of themselves. We have a rich heritage based in Baglan, a village in Port Talbot, South Wales.
Back in 1963 Port Talbot council decided to open a community space at the Evans Bevans Playing fields. It was here where football and cricket teams coexisted peacefully. They had the playing field, a pavilion for the cricket tea, nets for cricket training and tennis courts.
Originally BBGC youngsters were entertained at two huts in Thorney road, when the huts succumbed to fire a new home was sought. The old Pavilion tea room was repurposed as a community space.
In 1964, the Baglan and District Boys Club Charity emerged, driven by a purpose to help boys with their physical, mental and spiritual capacities. Today, our unwavering dedication to this mission remains steadfast, and we proudly extend our warm welcome to all, regardless of gender, ethnicity or background.
The club experienced remarkable progress during the 90s. Substantial fundraising and an Urban aid grant allowed a sports hall to be constructed. This development not only exemplified the club's commitment to enhancing its facilities but also showcased the dedication of its benevolent members. Their selfless investment of time and resources, coupled with the improvement of the field's drainage system, has ensured optimal conditions for all those who utilise our grounds, creating an environment conducive to success and enjoyment.
In 2006 the club's location was secured when BBGC, were given a long term lease on the beloved Evans Bevans by Neath and Port Talbot County Borough Council, giving us a lasting home to continue with our mission. We take pride in our responsibility to foster an inclusive environment where team and cooperation thrive, ensuring our facilities are always ready to welcome players and visitors alike.
BBGC proudly operates the facilities for the benefit of the community. Our 3G and indoor hall caters to various sporting disciplines, with facilities for football, badminton, basketball, netball, rounders and even indoor cricket nets. We have plans to further utilise the space for the community to support the wellbeing of all. The playing field is shared with our Partners Baglan Dragons and Baglan Cricket.
At BBGC, our club’s foundation was built upon the passion and dedication of our volunteers, this continues today. Their tireless efforts sustain our operations and ensure the provision of facilities to our local community. Together we continuously fundraise, united by our shared vision to foster a sustainable and inclusive environment for all. At BBGC we are more than a just a club, we are catalyst for positive change, reflecting the spirit of unity that drives us forward.
